How My Mom Keeps Me Humble
Last week I sent out an Email about sturdy leadership. I gave a few tips that I try to keep in mind as a leader in any role I'm in. I loved all the responses I got to that email - thank you!
A few days later I visited my mother - who, if you know me, knows that she is generally responsible for my self-confidence that I had from a young age - always affirming that I could do anything, be anything, that I was the best.
She taught me to say "sticks and stones may break my bones but words never hurt me" - when I would be called fat by other girls at school.
She taught me to "consider the source" when I would hear a rumor about someone that was unkind.
She taught me "you do not NEED a man" while affirming I could make my own way in life without relying on a romantic partner to make me whole.
She taught me that "it's just stuff" - I could always replace it or make more money to buy it - when my purse was stolen in 6th grade.
She also knows how to keep my feet on the ground....
"I got your Friday Email."
"Yeah? And? Wasn't it good?" - Me
"Well. I think you might need to work on some of those things you wrote about."
:::::nodding::: Cool Cool, thanks mom.
So, be confident but stay humble my friends.
