I got hung up on today

Get this.

Ok, so, we're hiring a Franchise Marketing Manager at DivaDance HQ - someone responsible for helping our franchise owners get more "a$$es in cla$$es" (heaving emphasis on the $$) - through Email and text marketing campaigns, paid social media advertising oversight, influencer marketing, and local marketing partnership development.  It's an awesome role that will have a big impact for us all!

So I've gotten a TON of applicants, and only done 2 interviews so far. I'm not looking for anyone who "can" do the job, but someone who IS DOING the job now - and are ready to take their talents to South Beach Austin, TX.

Today, I was so excited about a candidate's resume. Though they seemed a bit more junior based on their resume, I was hopeful. They are doing the same job now, at a very large brand. A brand SO LARGE, that I even checked with the candidate as soon as we signed on the Zoom.

Me: "So, VERYLARGEBRAND is a lot different than DivaDance at this current time, what attracts you to a small company?"

They really sold me....building things from the ground up! taking ownership! exploring my entrepreneurial side! All-the-right-things.....exactly-what-I-want-to-hear!

Me: "And even though it's highly unlikely I could match their compensation package, just confirming we should still explore the role?"

Candidate: Oh totally, it's not about the money for me, it's about the right opportunity. A place I can grow. A place where I can have ownership. A place where I align with the mission and values.

So we went on to talk for 20 minutes about their background, current role, and alignment with our needs. They asked me about our culture, my future vision for the brand, and over the course of the call, got me very excited about what they could contribute. I had stars in my eyes!

Just before I was about to drop my colleague's Calendly in the chat for them to take next steps, I asked:

"Now I know you mentioned it's more about the right opportunity, but generally speaking what WOULD your compensation goals be?"

What happened next, as told only through GIPHYs:

Them

Me, then Me as I mentioned the highest possible end of our salary range (still about 50k less than what they wanted (yes, really)

Them (yes, literally they just signed off the Zoom without notice)

Me

So yeah. Being an employer is hard, especially as a Founder of a brand that is growing-but-still-not-there-yet!

Send me all the vibes that we find The One!
