This just happened…..
I have some breaking news.... I'm injured. Today while literally twerking for my life teaching class to Tyga "Rack City", (it was the moment I was teaching section :28-32 in the song) I heard a little pop in my foot. Don't worry, it's nothing super serious (I don't think ...), but as a fast-moving-always-on-the-go-oh-and-I-have-2-kids kinda gal, even a hangnail can be a speed bump. Right after this, I'm headed to orthopedic urgent care to see what's going on since this JUST happened, but before I do, I actually felt inspired by this to share with you.
This is what I refer to as a DISRUPTING EVENT.
Disrupting events are the "shit happens" of life. They are the flat tire, the sick child, the bad weather, the wifi-went-out, and they are the unexpected twerk-related-injury. They can throw off your routine, your future plans, and most notably - your mindset. Disrupting events can become "reasons why not" or "passes" we give ourselves that can take us further away from our goals. Disrupting events piss me off. I don't have time for this.
What agreements do you make with yourself when disrupting events happen? How can we treat these "shit happens" situations as speed bumps and not dead ends?
So, no matter the diagnosis, I am making some agreements with myself:
I won't let an injury impact my commitment to strength training and sticking to my workout goals (even if I have to tweak them - here I come, water aerobics!))
I won't suddenly allow myself to deviate from my healthy eating habits I've started in the last few weeks
I won't see this as a derailment - only a need for modification
I WILL ask for help and rest when I need to
Everything's fine....I got this.... :::::limps away:::::
