3 Things My Mom Taught Me

It's International Women’s Day! I'd like to take this as a chance to share some wisdom from the fiercest female I know - my mother. I'll make these quick:

1️⃣ It's just money.

When I was in 5th grade, my purse was stolen at school. I was devastated, violated, and embarrassed. Thinking I would be in trouble for leaving it on the bleachers at school. I'll never forget the relief that washed over me when my mom said it was no big deal and that it was all replaceable. That has shaped my outlook on money, knowing that I can trust in myself to always generate more if I have to, and "stuff" is just STUFF. My mom was ahead of her time with abundance mindset!

2️⃣ Consider the source.

My mom always fussed at me for taking gossip as the gospel. When I would get worked up about something someone said about me or some other drama, she would encourage me to "consider the source" of who said it (and consider their credibility and motive).

3️⃣ You can do anything.

If there's one thing my mother instilled in me without question - it's a healthy self-confidence. She even named me Jami inspired by the Bionic Woman - a character from the 70s show who had extraordinary physical and intellectual abilities that set her apart from everyone else. This is one that I carry with me, and as a Girl Mom myself - and that confidence has been the foundation of my life and of our company.

I'm grateful to be a strong woman, raised by a strong woman, who is raising strong women.  And I'm thankful to YOU (who I'm pretty sure is also a strong woman, unless you're my husband or Dad - and in that case, you SUPPORT strong women!) for supporting me and the emboldening mission of DivaDance! Happy International Women’s Day!
