3 Ways I’ve Been Playing Too Small

You may not believe this, but I’ve been playing too small.

Here are three of my biggest limiting beliefs I previously held—and how I’m moving past them to actualize the potential of the DivaDance brand.

1️⃣ “Being a founder isn’t a real job.”
When I left the corporate world, I walked away from what I thought was a “real” job—a nice salary, a solid leadership role within a large organization, a clear roadmap to grow from Director to VP to SVP and beyond. Running my own business, by comparison, felt like I was just making it up as I went. But here’s the truth: I have a real job. I have real employees. We run real systems. We generate real revenue. Everything about our HQ is real. And the impact we make? That’s as real as it gets.

2️⃣ “DivaDance is just for fun.”
At first, I saw us as just a recreational activity—not a fitness or wellness brand. I perceived that being a "fitness company" meant not only did each of our clients need to desire thinness and perfect bodies, but that the same was expected of me as our leader. I've now embraced that fitness isn’t about conforming to a specific body composition—it’s about vitality, confidence, longevity, and of course holistic health that comes from cardio. As the definition of what fitness and wellness is has evolved, we're stepping into that era in a big way.

3️⃣ “We'll never be like XYZ brand!"
One of the unique things about franchising is the transparency around financial performance. I used to study successful fitness or membership model brands and think, "We could never get to that level." But now, instead of limiting ourselves, we’re laser-focused on figuring out exactly how we’re going to reach—and exceed—the levels I thought were previously out of reach. And we're getting closer.
