Let's talk about my competition (it's not who you think)

This one might make some waves but it's worth it for the takeaway I want you to have that will make you a better leader and human (you're welcome.)

Soooooo.....I learned this week that a 5-year employee of DivaDance HQ is opening her own studio for adults.  This isn't just a "former employee" - but an employee-turned-friend-turned-family. I have laughed harder with this person than many others. She's changed my daughter's diapers. She even helped me carry a mattress 5 blocks and 2 avenues in Manhattan (long story). Most notably, she made a significant contribution to the growth of DivaDance and in the process, became a beloved instructor and human in our community. So naturally, a few months ago when she shared her planned departure from the company, I was devastated to lose her. Huge shoes to fill. In the words of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman - BIG. HUGE.

OK be honest - what was your first reaction when I said she was opening her own direct competition to DivaDance? Mm hmm. Actual footage of your response. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a few short-lived feels upon learning of this, but quickly I landed back at a place of celebration, thanks to an incredible concept called the Shine Theory. Go read this real quick and then come back.

...Ok welcome back. Is your mind blown or what? Shine Theory is big, y'all. It's a deep commitment to true self-confidence, allyship for women, and knowing that when YOU shine WE ALL SHINE! We aren't competition, we're collaborators. I'm into this big time.

There are plenty of clients for all of us, plenty of money for us all to make, more than enough of whatever-it-is-you're-selling to go around... and in the context of DivaDance - look at how their experience with us made them more confident with a stronger belief in themselves (!!) So much so - that they would take a chance, try something new, and bet on themselves (while doing something they LOVE to do.)  I accept this as a compliment not a threat.

Upon learning of her studio opening, I sent love, excitement, compliments on her branding (it's so cute yall), and my offer to be a resource anytime. All of this was sent with sincerity, love, and most importantly - an abundance mindset.

Here's the deal, my dear tea-drinker: I can want to win (and I WILL win), while ALSO wanting other people to win too.

Remember that your only competition is your own mindset, your own emotional intelligence, your own self-management and discipline, your own work ethic, and your own ability to truly want those around you (especially fellow women) to SHINE as bright as you.

Your only competition is YOU.
