Keeping Your Tank Full

Quick story. When I was 16 and I got my very first car (she was a gorgeous 1993 Geo Storm), my Mom & Dad made me sign a contract of all the terms I agreed to as I took on this big responsibility. Having sit-down goal and expectation setting was a way of life at my house (this may explain a lot) 😂

We didn't have cell phones back in the stone age 90s, but if we did, I'm sure no texting and driving would definitely have been top of the list... But some other things I remember specifically that Tony & Billie had me agree to:

  • No one could ride in my car that they didn't know

  • I had to always wear a seat belt

  • If I got in a fender bender, I was required to get police on the scene

  • I had to stay within the speed limit at all times (I disregarded this one obviously....)

  • I could never let the gas tank fall under 1/4 tank of gas

The last one annoyed me, because just when I was very-busy-and-important bopping around town, listening to Notorious BIG "Big Poppa" and Montell Jordan "This is How We Do It" (it was a new release at the time) with my sunroof open and my perm flapping in the wind.... I would have to stop and :::ugh::: GET GAS.  Boring.

I've been thinking about this a lot and how keeping that tank full not only kept my dad off my back (yes he would check it from time to time when my car was parked at our house) but also — it literally kept me going toward my goals.  That short 5 minute stop at the Diamond Shamrock (our local gas station) would put me back on the road — and into the action.

I keep my tank full so I can show up every day, to everyone I care about, in the best way possible. Keeping my tank full usually consists of quality time where I'm laughing, learning or teaching. It also means getting high quality sleep, exercise, and having at least one day a week where my schedule is unrushed and unrestricted. Keeping my tank full means I'm more likely to be a lady in the place with style and grace 🎵

So, what are you doing to keep YOUR tank full?
