You look tired
A stranger told me today that I looked tired. Normally I would be sooooo offended, but I actually just responded with, "Thanks, I am." Because —I am actually.
Not only is my body-ody-ody tired from all-the-things (teaching class, strength training, chasing two little ones, work travel, and general day to day adulting).... My brainy-ainy-ainy (ok, it doesn't work as well....) is tired also.
This week those brain-tiring "things" included some intense conversations, creative problem solving, negotiation of deals under challenging circumstances, holding others very accountable —all while navigating change management at its finest as we are in the thick of a major technology migration. I also have to figure out where my 3-year-old learned the phrase "What the heck" - parenting, sheesh. (Also, I fully realize I ain't seen nothin' yet.)
But, I have to GET TO do it all over again next week - and the next. And the one after that. Turns out, life is an infinite game. So this weekend, I plan to rest. Here's why: Rest creates energy you need to be effective tomorrow.
There is no way I can be an effective mother, leader, Founder, human when I'm unrested. Just ask… everyone around me.
If this resonates with you too, I'd invite you to read this quick article on the 7 Types of Rest - a great one I recently shared with my team as well as local leaders across our franchises. It will help you diagnose the types of rest you really need (hint: it's not just sleep) so that you can be effective tomorrow - and the day after that, and the day after that.
Night night!
I'm off to scroll TikTok .... REST!
